"The Feathered Child"- Kitty/Kyle
The days were slowly getting slightly warmer, the flowers were blossoming, birds were chirping, and the deciduous trees were sporting leaf buds. Nature was slowly awakening from its winter slumber. Spring was more than welcomed in the sights of two friends dwelling in puppy love.
The backyard of the Broflovskis was commonplace for Kyle and Kitty these days a favorite spot for them to hang out together. The two were gazing at the beauty before them and next to each other.
"The sun, the flowers, the creatures stirring and being with my prince." Kitty smiled. "This couldn't get any better." Kyle told Kitty with a warm smile.
"Yeah, if only we were married and had a child this would be perfect!" Kitty replied
"Rushing much? We're only 10 years old!" Kyle responded
"Heh, that's not what you said last week."Kitty smirked (yes I meant that XD)
"..that was an exception." Kyle noted "Say...do you hear that"
"Hear wha.." Kitty's reply is interrupted as a loud shrilled
panicked chirping could be heard. The chirps were a clear cry for help.
"What the balls?!" Kitty asked as her and her boyfriend rush to investigate.
Under was a small injured sparrow flapping about and chirping helplessly.
"Aww a baby bird!" Kitty squealed
"Oh God what's wrong with it?? !" Kyle replied
"I think he injured his wing he can't fly !" Kitty retorted "We should take care of him in!"
"What?! Why?!" Kyle asked
"Because he'll die! How heartless are you to just watch someone die?!" Kitty replied, "Besides who's always the one spouting about morals and responsibilities??
"But it's a bird." Kyle mumbled
"He can be like our son! We can raise them together like parents! You'd make an awesome dad." Kitty smiled
"Hmm ¦you think so?" Kyle smiled back into Kitty's pleading eyes. "Oh alright we'll raise him."
"Yaay! Thank you daddy!" Kitty replied excitedly as she gives her beloved a kiss.
In minutes they had the tiny bird in a medium sized shoebox bedded down with an old soft hand towel. Kyle gentley wrapped the wounded wing so their little feathered child wouldn't agitate it even further. When that was done they sat their new bundle of joy on the kitchen table pondering on what else to do.
"Well now that he's patched up I guess we should find something for him to eat." Kyle asked
"I think''.." Before Kitty could replied Mrs.Broflovski enters.
"Kyle, what is all the commotion??" His mom demanded after hearing the bird chirp and chirp and chirp.
"An injured sparrow mom! We found him outside on the ground.." Kyle was interrupted.
"No, no, no, you know how I feel about filthy animals in my house! Get him out!" Sheila demanded
"But mom!"
"NOW!!" Mrs. B repeated
"We'll take him to my place." Kitty said as she picks up the shoebox and leaves with Kyle by her side. They walk down the street heading towards Kitty’s house.
"And now you see why I don't pets." Kyle groans
"Heartless bitch.." Kitty mumbled
"Hey don't call my mom a bitch!" Kyle retorted
"But Kyle she just kicked us out with her grand child!" Kitty replied
"Kitty he's not her grand child he's a bird ! A BIRD
!" Kyle groaned
"But he's our child that makes him..."
"I did agree to raising him as our own but he is still a BIRD!" Kyle replied
"Hey what's with all the yelling?" A familiar voice asks. The two turn around to find Mutt and Kenny sitting on Mutt's porch. On their route to Kitty's they had come across Mutt's house.
"Kyle is in denial about our son!" Kitty cried without thinking
"Son?!" Mutt and Kenny glance at each other before glancing back .
"Damn that was quick!" Kenny noted
"DUDE! He's not a kid kid he's a bird!" Kyle explained
"We found this injured bird he can fend for himself. But Kyle's mom kicked us out with him." Kitty added
"Aaah bird raising a fun endeavor I raised a few abandoned and wounded birds myself." Mutt noted
"Oh cool, say what do we feed him?" Kitty asked
"Eh sparrows aren't too picky bread, crackers, fruit but their favorites are insects and worms." Mutt replied
"WORMS UGH!!!" Kyle let out.
"So what are you naming your new kid?" Kenny asked
"His name is Kyle Jr. After his asshole of a dad." Kitty replied
"I don't mean to be an asshole but you're taking this "kid" think waayy too seriously!"
"Ooooh boy. You guys better calm down other wise you'll end up like my parents. Always fighting and miserable most of the time they're next to each other. " Kenny warned.
"Oh I could never be miserable next to my prince!" Kitty smiled as she hugged a still miffed Kyle.
"Heh let's hope it stays that way." Mutt remarked
"We can handle it. Us together as parents." Kitty smiled
"Yeah." Kyle said less enthused about the adventure then his "wife" was. The two "parents" continue onward to Kitty's house.
Moments later found the couple in the living room with their handmade nest sitting on a table and Kitty scrounging up some fruit from her fridge but knew the new guest would need a variety.
"Kyle can you go out back and round up a few insects and worms for our son?" Kitty asked
"Ew gross I'm not digging up nasty ass bugs!" Kyle replied
"But we need to take care of Kyle Jr. together! Please tell us we won't end up like those constantly fighting couples!" Kitty responded
"But it's just a bird...:"
"Look Kyle I know you're not into this as much as I am but one day we will want to get married and have a kid of our own. And he or she will need both of us to work together to raise them in a healthy and stable environment so he/she doesn't end up like well...Cartman. Kyle Jr. may not be our human child but he's still a child and still needs both of us to work together to care for him consider him practice for our real child someday. Please tell me you'll work with me Daddy." Kitty told him with pleading eyes.
"Yeah you're right let's raise our "son" together." Kyle replied with a smile.
"Now please go catch a few nasty ass bugs you can use rubber gloves or something oh and anything but stinkbugs." Kitty repeated
"Alright hon I'll do it for you ...and our son." Kyle laughed he gave Kitty a kiss before going in the backyard.
The afternoon went on seemingly smoothly as the couple took care of the bird happily. They took turns feeding, cleaning, and whatever else they had to do to get their son back in the skies. It was a lot of work for such a small creature. At some point the turns were becoming less of "turns" and more of one person doing more work then the other.
"Um hey Kyle I thought you were going to clean out the bird shit this time..." Kitty noted as the Kyle Jr's box had been defecated for at least the dozen time this day.
"Can I get it the next time? " Kyle asked
"You asked that the last time! And I just had to give this bird a bath again when it was also your turn! You've been getting lazy lately!" Kitty scolded
"I fed him!" Kyle defended himself
"Yeah you fed him Doritos that gave him the orange shits!" Kitty replied
"Uggh I didn't know Doritos gave birds the shits..." Kyle groaned
"You could at least help clean it up!" Kitty added
"Fine..." Kyle replied as he finely got off his lazy ass and began to help clean out the hand made bird box though not without groaning and moaning. "Cleaning up shit what I fine way to spend a Saturday.."
"Kyle relax..." Kitty groaned
"What?! I'm helping!" Kyle retored
"Yeah while bitching about it!" Kitty replied
"You know what I can leave if you're going to be like that!" Kyle said
"...Kyle don't..."
"No! I'm tired of us having to take care of that stupid bird..and no he's not our son! He is a very needy as hell bird!" Kyle replied "I'm going out for a beer.." He blurts out
"But you're only 10 yrs old you're too young!" Kitty replied
"That's not what you said last week!" Kyle responded while leaving
"Kyle, wait!" Kitty called, hands clenched in fists at her sides. She wasn't ready to give up, not now. "Just hold on, please!"
"No all you give a shit about is that bird!"
"Sweetie... Don't you see how we're becoming?" Her voice wavered and got softer, and she paused to steady it. "Is this how it's gonna be when we get older? Is it, Kyle? You know I care about you more than I've ever cared about anything in my life, and that includes the k- the bird... How could you say something like that?"
Kyle looked into Kitty's pleading eyes and it hurt him so to be arguing with his love. Eventually the bird would one day be a real child would this be how they would handle the stresses of raising it? By taking it out on each other. "I don't want us to end up like this either......I love you too much.." He replied
Kitty let out a long breath, and Kyle realized she'd been holding it as she'd waited for his response.
"Ditto, Kyle. Don't worry though." She caught up with him and kissed him sweetly. "None of this changes the fact that I know you'll make a wonderful father one day. You were under stress with your responsibilities, and believe me, I know how that is." She kissed him again. "I-If it'll really make you feel better, I'll... I'll put up the bird for adoption." She was obviously reluctant to do so, and turned her face away a bit as she said it.
"We can't do that. After all he is our "child" when we have a real child we can't just put them up for adoption we have to see them through as long as we live. Of course with the bird all we have to do is take care of him until his wing heals and that is what we'll do...and we'll help each other as well as loved ones should." Kyle smiled as he hugged Kitty tight
Kitty walked outside, Kyle Jr. clasped gently in her hands. In the time it had taken for his injured wing to heal, he had become a sleek and handsome bird. Kyle followed behind her.
"Well today is the day Kyle Jr." Kyle said smiling as if it were their son's graduation day. "It's a big world out there but we know you can make it. Find yourself a girl bird and make little birdies."
"I'm so proud of you, little guy." Kitty pet the bird, smiling. "You grew up so fast... But you're the cutest lil' guy now... Now you keep your nose... er, beak clean, okay? And don't forget me!" Kyle Jr. almost seemed to understand, and he gently pecked her arm. "Awww good boy! Now fly away! be free!" She stretched out her arm.
The small bird looks around him a bit hesitant to leave the safety of his care takers. But he seemed to know he couldn't stay forever he streches his wings, flaps them about for a bit before taking off and perching on a nearby tree. Kyle Jr. stares at them and chirping as if thanking them before going on his way into the big world.
"Kind of sad to see him go...it's amazing what people can accomplish with their love for each other." Kyle smiled
Kitty smiled as well, holding him close. "Yeah..." Her gaze travelled to him. "It sure is..." She paused for a moment, looking back out to the empty tree. "Do you think we'll ever see our baby again?"
"I'm sure we will. " Kyle replied "Maybe he'll come back and raise his family in your backyard. Soo uhhh...want to pretend it's last week.."
Linda smirked coyly, took his hand, and led him back to the house, shutting the door behind them.
